Community guidelines

Seven principles, in order of importance. They’re short on purpose. For the detailed rules, see the terms or the safety page.

The principles

Be kind

Most of our other rules come from this one. If a comment feels sharp, wait a few seconds before you post it. Things said online last a long time.

Be real

Don't pretend to be someone else, and don't use generative AI to make moments and pass them off as your own. If a moment is staged, heavily edited or made with AI, mark it with the label we provide. People should be able to trust that a person they can write back to made what they see.

Respect consent

Don't post photos or recordings of people who can be identified without their permission. This matters most for children, including your own. If someone's voice is recognisable, ask them first. For groups in public places, keep faces blurred or out of frame.

No hate or harm

Don't post content that attacks people because of their race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability or age. Don't post content that encourages or celebrates violence, or that promotes self-harm.

No spam or manipulation

No mass messaging, engagement schemes, coordinated fake activity or services that sell followers. There are no public numbers here to game, so please don't try.

Protect children

We have zero tolerance for content that sexualises, endangers or exploits children. Confirmed child sexual abuse material is reported immediately to NCMEC and law enforcement, the account is closed, and the device it came from is permanently blocked. If you see anything like this, report it and we'll respond within hours. Our full child safety standards are at dailymoment.social/child-safety.

What happens off DailyMoment counts too

If you use DailyMoment to organise harm somewhere else, such as harassment campaigns, doxxing or threats, we can suspend or close your account even though the harm didn't happen in the app. We work with other platforms' safety teams on these cases.

When something goes wrong

How reporting works

Every moment, comment, message and profile has a report option. Here’s what happens after you use it.

How to report

Tap the three dots on any moment, comment, profile or message, pick a reason, and add details if you can. The person you report isn’t told who reported them.

How quickly we look

Reports of imminent harm or suspected child abuse material reach a person within ten minutes, and we aim for under five. Harassment and hate are reviewed within an hour. Spam and misinformation are reviewed within a working day.

What you hear back

We tell you when a decision is made, what it was (kept up, hidden, removed or action on the account) and which rule we applied. We don’t share the reported person’s identity if you didn’t already know it.

If we get it wrong

People who are reported can appeal, and people who report can ask for a second look. Both go to a different moderator from the one who made the first decision, and both are logged.

When we act

What we do, from least to most serious

We start with the lightest step that deals with the problem.

Warning
A notice in the app that a moment or comment crossed a line. The content may stay up. Three warnings in 90 days moves you to the next step.
Hide
The content stays in your archive but is removed from feeds, Hubs and public discovery. We often do this while a moderator takes a closer look.
Remove
The content is taken down. You'll get a notice explaining which rule applied, with the relevant excerpt, and you can appeal.
Suspension
Your account is paused, usually for 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days. You can read but not post. We use this for repeated breaches or a single serious one.
Termination
Your account is closed permanently. We keep this for single very serious breaches (child abuse material, credible threats, doxxing campaigns) or a pattern that continues after several suspensions.
Permanent ban
Your account is closed and your device is blocked from creating new accounts. We only use this for the most serious safety breaches.

How to reach us

For anything urgent, please use the report option in the app. For everything else, safety@dailymoment.social reaches a person within the working day.
